This year’s 100 Beste Plakate unfolds under a motto that neatly captures the spirit of the competition. Each year, 100 Beste Plakate e. V. highlights the most inventive posters produced in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, and the annual book has become a touchstone for designers across these regions. In 2023, the publication appears for the first time with Slanted Publishers, marking a new chapter for the long-running series.

The book brings together all 100 selected works from the 100 Beste Plakate 23 competition, reproduced in a bold, large-scale format. Alongside the images, readers will find succinct insights into how the posters came to be—what they communicate, who created them, and the conditions of their making. The volume acts as a snapshot of current poster practice, pointing to the ideas, methods, and visual languages shaping the field today.

Contributions from Toan Vu-Huu (jury introduction), Fons Hickmann (foreword), and Helene Roolf (essay), together with jury presentations and a complete directory of credits, build out the broader context.

Guided by the theme “X out of 100 / Expect Nothing — Appreciate Everything,” the publication consciously avoids ranking. Every poster or series appears simply as one of the hundred, presented without hierarchy and with equal attention.
