Int/Est/Ext Chair

Int/Est/Ext Chair

$2,700.00

We’re proud to release an edition of OOIEE’s Int/Est/Ext Chairs in white oak.

This edition is meant to live in the “bothness" of interior and exterior. The chair’s form was originally a response to a chair Rei Kawakubo designed for Comme de Garcon that was rendered in aluminum. And then a one-off in Douglas fir. From there, the chair started to take on a totally different life of its own in wood and was included in an exhibition at Volume Gallery in 2019.

Mxltiply and OOIEE now present an edition of the chair in white oak, which exudes precision and presence. White oak is a wood known for its stability outdoors in the elements. It’s gorgeous from the get-go but we expect the patina to be even better. Wabi-sabi dreams.

OOIEE’s name is a playful nod toward some of our most foundational questions: namely, the persistent experience of interior/exterior as it relates to philosophy, perception, and consciousness. While it's an intimidatingly vast and dynamic concept, we encounter these questions often in the day-to-day realm via the spaces we design, and the objects we make to go "in" them. In screenwriting, Int/Est/Ext is a way of communicating the "intention" of a scene to the cinematographer and others... it stands for Interior Establishing Exterior. And we call this chair the Int/Est/Ext chair because it's able to exist in a state of "bothness"... it can live either indoors or out.

About the Studio
OOIEE (Office Of Interior Establishing Exterior) is a transdisciplinary, open practice founded by Matt Olson after his first studio RO/LU ended. They work on projects driven by a sprawling set of interests related to art, design, architecture, and landscape. The studio sees all things as connected and is committed to following what it loves rather than attempting to decide what it does. Their work has been exhibited internationally and is in the permanent collection at the Walker Art Center, as well as many amazing private collections.
